Guide to sending flowers

It’s never easy when a loved one passes, and ordering flowers to celebrate their life doesn’t have to add to the difficulty. Whether a close family member or distant friend, if you’re looking to send directly to the funeral home or to the family’s home, ordering flowers can seem a bit overwhelming. Here is a guide to sympathy and funeral floral, as well as what types of flowers are most appropriate.

Why flowers?
Traditionally, flowers and herbs were used to anoint the bodies of the deceased, and aromatic flowers decorated the final resting place. Flowers nowadays are sent to the family of the deceased as a tribute to celebrate the life of their loved one.

Neutral colored flowers are typical to funerals as they symbolize peace and serenity. Colorful and vibrant flowers are acceptable as well, and can add a joyous feeling to an otherwise somber environment.

Sympathy vs Funeral flowers
Sympathy floral are typically smaller to medium sized arrangements that are sent directly to the family’s home. Plants are also a great option, as they bring in a freshness as well as leave a lasting memory of your thoughtfulness.

Funeral flowers are sent directly to the funeral home and/or graveside services. Typical arrangements include casket spray, standing spray, wreaths, crosses, floor baskets, and plants.

When to send flowers?
Many families appreciate the thought of receiving flowers in this difficult time. If the family asks for a donation to be made in lieu of flowers, it is recommended to make the donation and possibly send a arrangement along to the family as a small gesture.

If you’ve heard the news after the funeral has passed, sending flower to the home of the family as soon as possible is a generous effort.
